Why the Uinta Basin Continues to Matter to Utah’s Economy
The Uinta Basin continues to play an important role in Utah’s energy landscape and new data highlights just how significant that impact is.
According to the September 2026 Snapshot of the Fiscal Impact of Utah’s Oil & Natural Gas Industry, the Uinta Basin has attracted $6 billion in acquisition value since August 2024, reflecting growing interest and activity from producers across the country.
The impact extends well beyond energy production. Across Utah, oil and natural gas industry-related fees and taxes totaled $6.9 billion from fiscal years 2022–2026. In 2026, the industry supported 12,606 direct employees and more than $1.3 billion in wages, up from 10,249 employees and $897 million in wages in 2022.
Those dollars also have a broader community impact. Revenue generated by oil and natural gas production helps fund services Utah communities rely on every day, including education, roads, and public safety.
